If September saw Dubai residents trigger-happy as Bollywood bigwigs paraded into town for a daily photo op, October plans to serve up a meatier dish with even Hollywood stars cashing in on the craze.

“Pretty Woman” star Richard Gere will descend into the capital for the gala opening of the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, which kicks off on October 11.

Gere’s Wall Street thriller “Arbitrage,” will kick off the 10-day festival, which has been produced by Saudi national Mohammed Al Turki, who will also be attending.

Director Nicholas Jareki, along with actor Nate Parker, will be sharing the red carpet spotlight with Gere at the Emirates Palace Hotel.

While the programme and it’s star-studded affair is still a closely guarded secret, rumour has it that George Clooney may make a short stop once again to our sunny shores, after visiting the UAE for the Dubai International Film Festival back in 2007.

Bollywood calling

Meanwhile, Dubai will be vying for its own spotlight as October 11 also sees the arrival of Rani Mukerjee and Prithviraj Sukumaran who will be in the emirate for the world premiere of “Aiyyaa”.

The upcoming romcom, which will release across UAE cinemas on the same day, sees Mukerjee play a Marathi girl who falls in love with a Tamil superstar played by Prithviraj.

Organised by Dream Advertising and Ministry of Events, the duo is expected to visit a mall visit followed by the screening.

The same week will also see “Chakravyuh” stars jetting into the emirate, with Arjun Rampal, Abhay Deol and Manoj Bajpai leading the way.

The political thriller, directed by Prakash Jha, is slated for an October 23 release across UAE cinemas.
