Wednesday's public opening of the first theme park dedicated to a sports car has been postponed to next week, organisers said in a statement to Emirates247.com.

Official word from the team behind Ferrari World on Abu Dhabi's Yas Island was that a media event was still going ahead as planned, but that a public event would be delayed until noon on November 4.

Several events around the UAE have been postponed or cancelled following the demise of His Highness Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

Ferrari World, the world's largest indoor theme park, had been expecting up to 10,000 people on its first day of opening.

The park, development costs for which have not been made public, is housed under a massive triangular red roof on the Dh150 billion Yas Island development and Ferrari's decision to launch its first theme park in the Middle East in many ways shows how important the region is to the future of motorsports.

Tickets will be available at the entrance on the day the park opens.
