For most people family takes priority at Christmas. And the stars are no different, as the UK’s Press Association found after interviewing a series of actors, singers and other entertainers.

Will Ferrell, 43, Hollywood actor

"We've got no major traditions - I think we're just going to stay at home and have some quiet family time, which is pretty valuable for us, with my schedule being quite hectic. There are no big plans, just having some friends and family around and opening way too many presents for the kids. Obviously, I would love to get a brand new helicopter because my old one is getting worn out!"

Joe McElderry, 19, “X Factor” winner

"We go skiing every year and we don't really have a Christmas dinner. We all end up eating spaghetti bolognese on the side of a mountain! One Christmas I got this amazing remote control car and it always sticks out as one of the best presents. It was like half the size of me when I was a kid so it actually felt like me own car. I loved it and I'll always remember that."

Mel B, 35, Former Spice Girl

"I don't really have any Christmas traditions except for giving and receiving loads of presents. We might go on holiday this year, but I've been everywhere so it's up to my husband to decide what we do. My best ever Christmas present was a Bentley!"

Gabriella Cilmi, 19, Singer

"I'm spending my first ever Christmas in London this year. I've lived here for nearly five years, but I've always spent my Christmases in Australia, so I want to try ice skating. In Australia, we normally go to the beach and have a big meal at my grandmother's house. We have pasta instead of turkey and every type of meat you can think of - it's a massive feast. My best ever present was a Barbie Polaroid camera - I was so excited when I got that!"

Mr Motivator, 58, TV fitness guru

"I'll be spending Christmas in Jamaica. We always sing ‘I'm Dreaming Of A White Christmas’ but it never seems to work! We have a big Christmas breakfast together then invite kids from the local area to join us for the day."

Georgie Henley, 15, “Narnia” star

"I always put out a carrot and a glass of milk for Rudolph and a mince pie and a sherry for Santa. We put it by the fireplace and when we go down on Christmas Day, my dad always stops on the steps on the way down and says, 'Wait, I've just got to check that Santa's still not here' and we go, 'Aw Da-ad'. That's a nice tradition that I think will carry on. The carrot's always eaten, so is the mince pie, the sherry is also very much drunk!"

Adam Garcia, 37, Actor/dancer

"I will be at home in Melbourne, Australia with my family. It'll probably be sunny, but you never know with Melbourne. But English people say, 'I couldn't have a warm Christmas, I have to have it cold'. Our family tradition is generally falling asleep and ignoring each other after falling into food comas! And my best present was probably my first surfboard. I got it one Christmas when we used to live on a beach. I was 11 and I was like 'Sweet!' and I spent the rest of the summer surfing. Or learning how to surf!"

Olly Murs, 26, Singer

"Christmas for me is about being at home with the family, home-made dinner, home-made trifle, EastEnders special, Only Fools And Horses and Home Alone 1 or 2... I'm looking forward to buying them presents this year. It's been two years since I bought my mum and dad and my family presents, but this year I've been able to buy them a present or two. I can't remember my best present but what I'd really like to receive this year is a girlfriend! I'd like to find the love of my life at Christmas. Is that possible?"

Tinie Tempah, 22, Rapper

"My main priority is just to be with my family for Christmas because I have to go to Australia two days after, for a couple of weeks to do some touring. So I want to make sure that on Christmas Day, I'm with my family in the family house. I have my bit of turkey - I normally like the leg - and take it easy and relax. I'll wear my sweater and watch some quality TV. My best Christmas present wasn't anything material. It was this one Christmas when all the family were together in the house, including cousins, aunties and uncles. It was really heaving but I appreciated that."
