Recreating the magic of ‘Devdas’ and ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ Bollywood's ace producer and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first ever television soap ‘Saraswatichandra’ will be aired tonight.

'Saraswatichandra' will set a new benchmark for Indian television with its majestic set featuring a lavish haveli (villa), pristine lakes and sprawling gardens.

The show has also been extensively shot at architectural marvels of Dubai and will feature some of the city’s renowned landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa.

'Saraswatichandra', based on a popular Gujarati novel with the same name, is actually a story of unrequited love.

Bhansali constructed a three-storey set in Dubai where the initial part of the serial has been shot.

Bhansali said that the novel is a huge four-volume literary work by Govardhan Madhavram Tripathi dated between 1887 and 1902.

Though set in the 19th century the serial has been modified to appeal to the masses.

The lead will be played by popular TV actress Jennifer Winget who will make her comeback with this show, opposite 'Nach Baliye 5' host Gautam Rode.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali (C), filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar (R) and Anu Malik (L).

As per the promos ‘Saraswatichandra’ played by Gautam Rode belongs to an affluent family who is happier serving those in need.

He is in search of his lady love Kumud Sundari, which will be played by Jennifer Winget.

The surprise in the serial is actress Monica Bedi who was last seen on the small screen  as reality show Bigg Boss season 2 contestant.

While on the show Monica made headlines for close moments with co-contestant Rahul Mahajan.

In ‘Saraswatichandra’ she will be playing the stepmom, vying for the attention of her stepson played by Gautam.

She also is a major hindrance in his life as she refuses to let him marry the love of his life.

As per reports the first 20 episodes have already been shot for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who believes the TRPs will decide the track each character will take, though that the serial will not deviate from its core idea.
