Indian National Award winning actor Shweta Basu Prasad of ‘Makdee’ fame was arrested for being allegedly involved in a prostitution racket in Hyderabad, according to various newspaper reports.

Shweta had won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for her performance in the 2002 film ‘Makdee.’

In an unfortunate turn of events, the actor, now 23, was arrested, after the police caught her in a prostitution racket at a Hyderabad hotel over the weekend.

The Task Force sleuths had busted a prostitution racket on August 31 at a hotel in Banjara Hills area.

The actress has reportedly told the police that she turned to the flesh trade because no films were coming her way and she had run out of money.

Shweta has now been sent to a Government Rehabilitation Home. She will be in remand for some time now. The chargesheet will be filed within the next 10 days.

In a statement to the daily Deccan Chronicle, Shweta has said that she took the step because of financial reasons.

She had to support her family and some other good causes. All doors were closed and some people encouraged her to get into prostitution to earn money.

Helpless and with no option left to choose (from), she got involved in flesh trade.

Since her last Bollywood outing eight years ago, Shweta has worked in a Telugu and a Bengali film.

According to reports, the actor was earlier, too, caught in a compromising position during a sting operation by a Telugu channel.
