One knew it was going to happen. Someone, somewhere would have killed Miley Cyrus off on social media soon enough; albeit one hoped the celebrity death could have been more dramatic – perhaps a frenzied twerk-off to put her VMA’s cataclysmic spectacle to shame.

But alas, someone came at creativity with a wrecking ball and placed the controversial singer on her death bed with the words ‘overdosed’ blaring in a Facebook scam.

The post, which went viral this past 48 hours, stated: ‘{SHOCKING) Miley Cyrus Found Dead in Her Los Angeles Home! Country singer Miley Cyrus found overdosed this afternoon in her Los Angeles home’.

A link attached with the post promised a gruesome video, worse than some of her Instagram ones, that was designed as clickbait to spread bogus surveys that make money for the scammers behind it.

But first, when users click on the post, they’re redirected to a website designed to look like Facebook.

It then prompts them to share the page before going further. This ensures that the scam spreads even further.

There’s no video of Miley, in case you are still wondering.

Miley also served up proof of her very existence across social media platforms this past 24 hours, even as fans found themselves whipped up in frenzy.

First she popped up on Instagram in selfies, showing off hair accessories, which include a little button of her deceased dog Floyd.

Then her Twitter account came on for the first time since July 18, where she promoted her VMA 2014 nominations for ‘Wrecking Ball’, which has been shortlisted for Best Director and Video of the Year.

With several fans wondering why the self proclaimed diva took so long to surface since the death hoax brought social media to standstill, celebrity site Hollywood Life caught hold of a source, a close friend of the singer, saying: “She is aware of the death hoax and thought it was actually pretty funny. By not responding, she thinks it is that much more of a joke because people are continuing to believe it.”

And there you have it people. For those of you who thought you would be robbed of another spectacular turn at this year’s MTV VMA’s are probably posting S’Miley’ faces already.
