Jaya Bachchan slams Shah Rukh, Abhishek's 'Happy New Year'

We need not reiterate the fact that Shah Rukh Khan's money churning 'Happy New Year' is illogical, full of melodrama and an attempt to test audiences' IQ level.

Trust Jaya Bachchan to slap this fact to Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah.

Jaya Bachchan was at a recently-concluded literature festival in Mumbai and was part of a session discussing 'The Failure Of Literature In Informing Current Cinema.'

The actress of yesteryears has never been known to mince her words and talking about 'Happy New Year' she said, "Unfortunately cinema today is about business, not art. We call good films 'art house cinema'. What does that even mean? All cinema is art."

She openly criticised Farah Khan's movie and made no bones about it. The fact that her son Abhishek Bachchan is a part of the ensemble cast did not stop her from speaking her mind.

An Indian daily quoted her saying, "HNY is the most nonsensical film I've seen in recent years. I said that to the film's lead actor as well. I watched it only because Abhishek was part of it. I told him he's a great actor if he can act stupid in front of the camera like that. I can't be part of what is being done in films these days and hence I don't do films anymore."

It is usually said mothers are the best critics and rightly so - ask Abhishek.

While Jaya Bachchan slammed her son's movie, father Amitabh Bachchan is relentlessly promoting the movie on his social media accounts.

Not just that; Sr Bachchan is also seeking to work with director Farah Khan.... or so he quips.

Bachchan wrote, "WOW !! @HNY crosses 300 cr world wide .. congratulations SRK and Farah .. well deserved .. So Farah when do we work together ! Haha."

Clearly there's a difference of opinion in the family as far as 'Happy New Year' is concerened.
