Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon emerged first runner up at the Miss Universe 2012 Christmas-themed pageant that took place at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This is the Philippines’ best finish since Miriam Quiambao in 1999. It is also the third consecutive year that a Filipina has made the Miss Universe Top 5.
 
In 2010 Venus Raj was 4th Runner up and in 2011 Shamcey Supsup was 3rd runner up.

Miss USA Olivia Culpo took home the Miss Universe 2012 crown, Venezuela was second runner up, Australia third runner up and Brazil fourth runner up.
 
Responding to a question by Nigel Barker sent in via Twitter, Tugonon was asked: “As an international ambassador, do you believe that speaking English is a pre-requisite to be Miss Universe”.

Her answer, “For me, Miss Universe is not about being able to speak a specific language, it’s about being able to influence and inspire other people. No matter what language you speak as long as you have
the heart and a strong mind you can become Miss Universe.”

The top ten in the order they were called Australia, Russia, Brazil, France, Venezuela, USA, Hungary, South Africa, Mexico and Philippines.

The top 16 included Turkey, Peru, Poland, Croatia, Kosovo and India.

    Frankly speaking, we all know Miss Janine deserves the crown. I mean, she is very beautiful, intelligent and bold. But I don't understand why Miss USA was given the crown. Anyway, Janine will always be my Miss Universe, 2012. (Love you Jay!).

    We all know that beauty is subjective but we should also consider that the Q&A portion has a big weight when it's down to the Top 5. It's still hard to digest how Miss USA won the title but there's no way to change the outcome. Congratulations to Janine and Olivia.

    Miss Philippines represented the country tremendously fantastic but is a little bit short to win the title because of subjective mood of some judges some secret issues and concern about choosing the new Miss Universe there still string attach to their decision that why the score was hidden to the vieowers as traditionally it was shown to play safe kindly give reason why they make changes its the genuine technique to maneuvers the entire results who the real winner is....

    A crown is just that - a crown. We all know who the real winner is, who the real role model is. Congratulations, Janine Tugonon! You solidified my belief that being first place doesn't always mean you win. Pinagmamalaki kita!

    For Obvious reason, all finalists Venezuela, Philippines, Australia, USA & Brazil are of equal Beauty and Charm entering top 5. Judges will select among the contestant who will give the best answer. The World is seeing Ms. Philippines & Australia only who gave their best answer but for whatever reason, Miss USA got it. Congratulations to all the winners like wise to all the contestants who represents their proud country. God Bless you all.

    For 10 years (2000 to 2009), no Filipina got a place in the pageant not even a slot for semi-finalists. And when the new decade ushered in, Miss Philippines has been consistently in the top 5. Congratulations, Philippines!!! The country has produced two titleholders (1969 and 1973). Hopefully it won't take long for a third Filipinia beauty queen to become Miss Universe.

    million percent it should be Ms. Philippines for an obvious reason! When she answered the question from Nigel she got the conviction, specially when she said the word "Inspire@ well what to expect that's life but HATS OFF to Ms. Philippines, you don't get the crown but the world knows it was for you!
