Revealed: The many shades of Bollywood’s Kangna Ranaut

With the kind of films Kangna Ranaut is coming up with, – ‘Rajjo’, ‘Krrish 3’, ‘Revolver Rani’ and ‘Queen’, she is undoubtedly on cloud nine. Needless to say Kangna is a fine actor and experiments with every role.

‘Rajjo’ releases on the same day along with ‘Ram Leela’. Is there any fear?

Well, I honestly don’t think that our film is competing with anybody. The film’s release is entirely the director’s decision and the producers’ call. I was told that the filmmakers were releasing the film on November 15 and as I haven’t interfered in such things in my whole career, I wouldn’t want to even here. Obviously I’m going to stand by our product and we hope that every film does well and there will be place for every film that releases that day.

What is your character in ‘Rajjo’ like?

In ‘Rajjo’, I’m playing this girl who is a prostitute and the film deals with ‘mujra’ houses. Also, there is this boy falling for her and some big businessmen who want to make malls in the same area. So the film deals with a lot of realistic issues and has been made in that very spirit. The director (Vishwas Patil) himself is an acclaimed writer who has written many books and has won awards so that’s the kind of spirit the film carries and when you go by the right expectations you’ll enjoy it for sure.

Did you take any inspiration from another actress who has played such roles earlier?

The role is very different and if there is an impression of someone else’s character in your head then you can’t really play yourself and do justice to it. But my personal favourite is Waheeda Rehman in ‘Pyaasa’ for she has played it with so much conviction.

The general idea of a prostitute is that the entire concept is vulgar, but when I researched on the character, it was totally contrary.

The way they speak is so nice that a man can leave anything for them. They were so well groomed that we were shocked.

Just like Waheeda Rehman’s character – the voice and the way she walks and talks. I was surprised to see the education they give them from a very young age of 3-4.

Your film ‘Queen’ is going international. How does it feel and what’s your character?

‘Queen’ is something that we are very proud of, to be screened at an international level and is going to have a world premiere. We’ll see the kind of response we get and how you perceive it. The movie is really good for sure.

‘Queen’ is the story of a very naive girl from the suburbs of Delhi who ends up going on honeymoon all alone. Why this happens that you’ll find out when you see the film. ‘Queen’s’ is one of the characters which is the most sensitive and vulnerable ever from all those that I have played so far. And it’s got nothing to do with showbiz.

So which was a challenging character – Kaya, Rajjo or Queen?

Every character has its own challenges but honestly the most challenging was ‘Revolver Rani’ where I am playing a dacoit-politician. It is a combination of a supergirl; ambitious and sensitive.

How has life been apart from Bollywood?

Right now I have a lot of reasons to celebrate and be happy. My family has moved to Mumbai. My brother has become a pilot and will start flying soon. And then there’s ‘Krrish 3’.

Which character do you relate to the most?

In real life I relate to Kaya of ‘Krrish 3’ the most.

Would you like to do a sequel of ‘Tanu Weds Manu’?

Definitely. If there is a sequel I would be playing Tanu.

Are there any plans of doing television?

I have always liked TV and watch it a lot. If I get a chance to host I surely would.

Is there any love happening?

Well, when expectations are unreal, disappointments do happen. But you learn from your mistakes. One has to be realistic in life.
