The Supreme Court of India sentenced Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt to five years in jail for illegal possession of weapons.

A big shock for Dutt fans and particularly Bollywood Box Office as the actor will have to now spend three-and-a-half years in jail and will be taken into custody once Mumbai Police gets a certified copy of the court's verdict.

The 53-year-old has already spent 18 months in jail and has to surrender within four weeks. The Apex court has also denied probation.

Following the verdict, several members of the film fraternity expressed their sadness over the news.

According to a rough estimate, approximately Rs 250-300 crore is riding on Sanjay Dutt's finished and unfinished projects in the next one to two years.

Official Statement of Sanjay Dutt

"I have already suffered for 20 years and been in jail for 18 months. If they want me to suffer more I have to be strong. I am heart broken because today along with me, my 3 children and my wife and my family will undergo the punishment. I have always respected the judicial system and will continue to do so, even with tears in my eyes. I am going to complete all my films and won't let anyone down. I am overwhelmed by the support of my fans the industry people, the media and all the well wishers. They have always stood by me and supported me. I know in my heart that i have always been a good human being, respected the system and always been loyal to my country. My family is very emotional right now and I have to be strong for them. I am shattered and in emotional distress. I am sorry I can't come down and meet you all. God is great and he will guide me through this."

And as promised Sanjay has been meeting with his producers and directors recently to chalk out a plan to finish up his pending films.

Reports has it that he’s assured them he won’t leave them in a lurch, and since shooting is mostly complete for his films, it is possible that he will manage to wrap them all up.

It is estimated 'Policegiri' will require almost 15 days, while 'PeeKeey' and 'Zanjeer' is said to require four to five days each. And according to court order Sanjay has 30 days before surrender.

Dutt plays the lead role in 'Sher' which will be released by the end of this year. Dutt has assured that he will spare two-three days to finish the remaining schedule of the film.

With back-to-back shooting schedules to keep his commitments it looks like Sanjay Dutt will get very limited amount of time to spend with his family.
