It wasn’t all work and no play for the stars of Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Tamasha’. At least, not when we visited them in Mumbai’s Mehboob Studios during the thick of movie promotions. We thought they needed a breather, and decided to chit-chat with them about happiness, honesty, Google, and their equation with the media, among a whole lot of other random stuff.

So, if you want to know who is the most dialed number on Ranbir Kapoor or Deepika Padukone’s phone? Then, have a listen in.

Emirates24|7: After ‘Tamasha’, Ranbir’s got Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone, you?

Ranbir Kapoor (RK): I’ve got Aishwarya? (laughs).

E24|7: You know what I mean. You are working with her on Karan Johar’s ‘Aa Dil Hai Mushkil’.

Deepika Padukone (DP): I’m riding solo!

RK: So, I have ‘Jagga Jasoos’ (with Katrina Kaif) and she has ‘Bajirao Mastani’ (with Ranveer Singh).

E24|7: While reading up on you guys, we chanced upon an interview of Ranbir’s where he says people are always happy on social media. Everyone’s clicking selfies and projecting they are “happy” when they are not. So, I want to know what’s making you sad?

RK: I’m pretty normal, and feel happy and sad just like anyone else. What would make me sad is if I stop getting the opportunities I am getting now, where films are concerned. Films and working with good people… talented people like Imtiaz, Deepika makes me really happy. But, suddenly tomorrow if I don’t get the opportunity or if I’m not good enough then that will make me sad.

E24|7: What’s the most annoying question you have been asked so far?

RK: I guess, ‘What’s your character about’?

DP: Is that annoying?

E24|7: You have to stick to seriously “annoying”

RK: What’s the most annoying question? Hmmm…(long pause)

E24|7: Just to give you a heads-up the questions are going to be fun and random.

DP: Ya, great!

RK: I read somewhere that if you say ‘I love YouTube’ fast, it sounds like ‘I love you too’. But, actually you are saying ‘I love YouTube’ and not ‘I love you’.

E24|7: This is random! (Laughs). But, tell me what’s the most annoying question you’ve been asked?

RK: Annoying? Nothing. If you are happy with the movie you are associated with, nothing is annoying.

E24|7: Have you ever lied to the media?

RK: Ya ya, of course! You have to lie some times.

E24|7: And, you Deepika? You are not answering.

DP: Was this for me? You didn’t ask me?

E24|7: Well, these questions are for both of you.

DP: Yes, I have. I think in the effort to protect myself.

E24|7: Ranbir, you have famously said that you feel like Kim Kardashian, and that your life is constantly on the radar. What’s the most bizarre story you have read about yourself?

RK: I have?

E24|7: Yes, we have seen video footage of the interview.

RK: That, I feel like Kim Kardashian, and my life is a big reality show.

E24|7: I’m not happy with that answer, but I’ll let it pass. So, have you ever Googled yourself?

RK: All the time! I have the Google Alert. Now, there are other ways to find out what’s being written about you, and what people are saying.

E24|7: So, does what’s said or written about you bother you?

RK: Of course it does. You have to read. It’s little bit of a reality check.

DP: I have never Googled myself.

RK: I have a Google Alert. Deepika also had a Google Alert a long time ago.

DP: I have the Google Alert, but I don’t Google myself.

RK: But isn’t that the same thing. When your name is mentioned doesn’t it alert you on Google?

DP: No. But that’s from a coverage point of view. You want to know what’s being said about you.

E24|7: Fair enough. For whatever reason Google has worked for you.

RK: (To Deepika) But you are the one who told me about Google Alert.

DP: (To Ranbir) I set your Google Alert by the way. Strangest was once when someone, who I was with, said, “You don’t know who I am? Google me.”

RK: You said that?

DP: No (laughing). I didn’t. I was with someone who said that.

E24|7: And, you won’t tell us who that “someone” is?

RK: Is that Shah Rukh Khan?

DP: No!

E24|7: Will you tell us?

DP: I can tell you offline.

E24|7: Okay… back to the questions then. Among the characters you’ve played so far, the one you loved the most, and the one you didn’t like.

RK: Let me say about her, and she can about me.

E24|7: Ok!

RK: The one character I loved the most that Deepika has done would be… It’s hard for me because

‘Piku’ was out this year and fresh in our minds, but I like her character ‘Meera’ in ‘Love. Aaj. Kal’. I clearly remember one shot where she is in front of the mirror removing her make-up… that stayed with me. That’s a beautiful shot.

E24|7: And, the one you hate the most?

RK: I would probably say…. (thinks)

DP: ‘Chandini Chowk to China’… or ‘Karthik Calling Karthik’?

RK: In ‘Chandini Chowk to China’, that umbrella song was nice. Erm… nothing. I don’t hate anything. I probably would hate a movie but not hate any character.

DP: His, I think, my most favourite would be Barfi (in ‘Barfi’) because I think it’s very difficult to do that. And, hate would be that one in ‘Besharam’.

E24|7: Ranbir, if you could get a tattoo, where would it be and what would it be? And, Deepika, you can pass this one.

DP: (laughs)

RK: I don’t know. I haven’t thought about it. Actually, I have!

DP: Get Messi’s face.

RK: Actually I was thinking about that.

DP: Really?

E24|7: On your arm?

DP: Are you serious?

RK: (Reaches out for his phone and pulls out an image) Actually, I had taken a stencil of it also.

DP: That’s ridiculous. I can’t believe I said that.

RK: Either Messi or Chaplin (shows another image on his phone). Just the moustache and the hat.

E24|7: Ya, that’s nice. Moving on, who’s the last dialed number of your phone.

RK: (Pulls out his phone and shows us his calling list) Aditya Roy Kapoor.

E24|7: You don’t have to show us, we trust you.

DP: But, didn’t you just call Imtiaz? No that’s not counted, it’s an incoming call.

RK: Sorry. I tried to call Imtiaz Ali.

E24|7: And you Deepika?

DP: Home.

E24|7: Who is the most dialed number on your phone?

RK: My trainer.

DP: Karishma (her manager!).
