Bollywood kitsch will be the flavour of the night, as Dubai rolls out the red carpet for a star-studded weekend extravaganza in the form of the Times of India Film Awards or TOIFA 2016.

Arguably, the biggest performances of the night will be Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh and Kareena Kapoor Khan, who will lead the way for the on-stage Bollywood glitterati in a melee of tribute acts and definitely, some tongue-n-cheek humour.

Commenting on the event, show choreographer Shiamak Davar said in a statement: "Toifa is bringing the biggest Bollywood stars on stage with timeless classics, current hits and tribute to legends."

Actors Parineeti Chopra and Riteish Deshmukh will host the main event, with other top names attending including the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Huma Qureshi, Sooraj Pancholi, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Chunky Pandey and more.

However, the main draw on March 18 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium will be performances by Bollywood’s biggest names. Emirates 24|7 brings you details on what to expect from Shah Rukh, Salman and others on the big night:

Salman Khan

In a curious turn of events, superstar Salman Khan will not be performing to his famous tracks, but rather will perform in an act that will pay tribute to the 'Heroes of Bollywood'.

Show choreographer, Davar, confirmed this in a statement, saying: “Salman is dancing to the music of all the heroes.”

Considering his performance is perhaps one of the most anticipated ones of the night, we can only hope there are some 'Selfie Le Le Re' moments with some of the film industry’s legends on stage with him; maybe even Shah Rukh Khan himself.

Shah Rukh Khan

Why dance to tribute acts when your own album of monster hits could fill an entire song catalogue?

In choreographer Shiamak Davar’s own words: "SRK's songs always become anthems and he’s performing to his biggest hits."

Toifa attendees will probably see several of the actor’s signature moves on stage, including the classic lover’s stance, with one leg twisted inwards and his arms opened wide.

Also, with Khan's 'Fan' nearing release, some fan-fare will definitely find a plug on the Toifa stage.

Ranveer Singh

If Shah Rukh is Bollywood’s 'King Khan', then Ranveer Singh is the film industry’s ‘King of Tributes’, with the ‘Bajirao Mastani’ actor taking to the Toifa stage to show the love to India’s legendary, Amitabh Bachchan.

Needless to say, the actor is probably going to groove to most of Bachchan’s monster hits, the likes of ‘Jumma Chumma’, ‘Khaike Paan Banaras Wala’ and even ‘Rang Barse’ to coincide with the Indian festival of Holi that falls on March 25.

In the past, he has performed in tribute acts dedicated to Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Govinda, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and probably a few more that we may have left out.

Kareena Kapoor Khan

Another actor who is mere weeks away from her film release is Kareena Kapoor Khan, whose ‘Ki & Ka’ – which was incidentally partially filmed in Dubai – will also take to the stage in one of the most anticipated performance of the night.

Davar has revealed the actress “will pay a special tribute to all the divas of Bollywood, with her ravishing act.”

While we are yet on the fence over the ‘ravishing act’ accolade, but needless to say, a song or two in honour of her favourite film star, sister Karisma Kapoor, will certainly find its way onto the set list.

The star’s other favourite Bollywood yesteryear lead star, who has made a successful comeback into films, is none other than Sridevi.

A song or two from ‘Chandini’ or ‘Chaalbaaz’ would not go amiss.

Varun Dhawan

The last time residents of Dubai saw Dhawan make a grand stage entry in the emirate, he was ushered in via a white Ferrari.

Could we have an entry for the young heartthrob that could live up to its predecessor?

We reckon Davar will have something planned for his former student who he calls a “fantastic dancer”.

The ‘Dishoom’ actor, who has been wowing Abu Dhabi residents last month during the shoot of his upcoming film, will be doing a ‘high energy performance’ to his current hits.

Jacqueline Fernandez

Another veteran to the Dubai stage, and the UAE for her various shoots, Jacqueline Fernandez has played the Arabian princess card with perfection, what with Bahrain being her former home.

The actress will groove to her top tracks, and incidentally, will also be taking to the stage the following day as an achiever at the the 6th GR8! Women Awards 2016 being held in Dubai.

Yo Yo Honey Singh

After nearly a two-year hiatus and battling a personal illness, Yo Yo Honey Singh has finally made his comeback to the performance stage earlier this year.

In a media statement, the singer turned actor stated he has his eyes on Salman Khan at Toifa this year.

Singh further added: "I have performed with Shah Rukh and Jacqueline Fernandez in the past, but not with Salman. So I am looking forward to interacting with him along with my performance, if he is in the audience."

Details: The official Toifa weekend will kick off on Thursday, March 17th, 2016 with the ‘Gulf Air Gold Carpet’ hosted by Manish Paul and Huma Qureshi at Jumeirah Beach Hotel, which will include performances by Shweta Pandit and Aman Trika, Shalmali Kholgade, Armaan and Amaal Mallik and more.

The main awards show will take place on Friday, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai Sports City. Tickets for Toifa 2016 Dubai are available from Dh199 onwards.
