What's Katrina Kaif's real name? Why is Salman Khan important?

As a teenager Katrina Kaif travelled to Mumbai, India in search of work. Acting was not her plan of action and ventured into modeling.

Katrina started working on her first movie 'Boom' at the age of 17.

The actress was aware of her shortcomings in Hindi but also conscious of the fact that her name 'Katrina Turquotte' would not ring a bell with her audience.

It made more sense to the 'Dhoom:3' actress to use her father's name as he was from India as oppose to her mother who is a British.

Even though her parents were divorced Katrina figured out that since she is working in India, her Indian heritage was more important.

That's when the shift from Turquotte to Kaif happened.

During the India Today Conclave Katrina kept her lips tight on queries about Salman Khan, her relationship with Ranbir Kapoor, his mother Neetu Singh and if there is any animosity between her and colleague Deepika Padukone, the actor made it clear that she just wouldn't like to be misinterpreted.

But Katrina Kaif said that her journey in Bollywood would have been difficult without former lover and 'unique' superstar Salman Khan.

She went on to say that Salman has been an extremely important part of her life and in process of her career in films.

But it was not only Salman, Katrina mentioned his family - his parents and sisters who have been very good to her and remain good friends.

Talking about Salman the actress said, "He is an amazing person. He is very unique. You don't meet many people like Salman in the world. He will always remain very important part of my life."

Katrina, whose personal life has made more headlines than her professional ventures, said she takes responsible for the rumours surrounding her.

"The reason is that for the last 8-9 years, I have chosen not to comment on my personal life because I just feel it's an easier way to be. I have kept everything very closely guarded," she said.
