Flights to and from Tunisia cancelled

All flights to and from Tunisia were cancelled on Friday due to a general strike called for the funeral of assassinated opposition leader Chokri Belaid, officials at Tunis international airport said.

"All the departures and all the arrivals have been cancelled for the whole of Friday," the airport's information service told AFP, adding that the cancellations included both domestic and international flights.

"Because of the strike, the planes cannot be serviced" by people on the ground, the source added.

EgyptAir, Tunis Air cancel flights

Egypt's national airline cancelled flights to Tunisia on Friday after staff at Tunis airport joined a general strike, airport sources said.

Officials at Cairo airport said EgyptAir had told them it cancelled two Friday flights. It was not immediately clear if other airlines were affected.

Tunis Air also suspended all its flights on Friday because of a general strike called by unions in protest at the killing of opposition politician Chokri Belaid, a spokesman said.
