The Pink Caravan on Sunday successfully concluded its 10-day journey marking more than 330 kilometers on horse-back as part of a nationwide breast cancer awareness campaign.

The Pink Caravan visited 20 areas across the emirates- where more than 10 mobile medical clinics were set up - offering early breast cancer detection examinations. Lectures and presentations were delivered at more than 21 schools. By the end of this pan-UAE tour, the Pink Caravan journey has conducted its targeted number of public awareness sessions about the importance of conducting early breast cancer examinations for both women and men to detect cancer disease in its early stages and help increase the rate of complete recovery and survival, says a press statement.

The campaign, which began in February 2011, will continue to run until 2014 according to a predetermined schedule.

The Pink Caravan has received immense official and public support across the emirates. A notable number of Sheikhs, prominent celebrities and renowned media, artistic and cultural personalities, other than Al Warqa riders, had joined the Pink Caravan riders who exceeded 100 men and women riders, in a gesture that reflects the importance of social solidarity and community partnership in supporting and encouraging humanitarian projects and making them a success.

On Sunday the 10th of April, The Pink Caravan riders were given a warm welcome by the Al Maha Elementary school in Abu Dhabi, and they will arrive on Monday in AlForsan Resort where they will be greeted by high-class official personalities. The medical team will continue to be offering free examinations and mammography screening at Khalifa (A) Medical Centre in Abu Dhabi from 8am to 8pm.

The health professionals referred women for free mammography and ultrasound screening, answered all queries raised and distributed brochures about the campaign. The team from Tawam Hospital was on hand with a mobile mammography unit so as to help deal with the expected huge turnout of women over 40 years old.

Also on the agenda at Khalifa (A) Medical Centre were sessions on educating women on how to perform monthly breast self-examinations with the use of easy, descriptive tools for early breast cancer detection. The medical team also conducted early breast cancer detection examinations for women as young as 20 years old who were examined by doctors by the use of SureTouch" Visual Mapping System technology.
