Femenist writer Germaine Greer has blasted the Duchess of Cambridge as "too thin" in an extraordinary attack on the British Royal family.

Speaking to European Newsweek, the author weighed in on the position and life of the duchess.

According to the author, Kate has been put in charge of William. She has a b****** of a job.

Speaking to Newsweek as part of a feature on changing attitudes towards the royals Greer says Kate is too thin and she is vomiting her guts up and shouldn’t have been made to go through second pregnancy so soon.

In a scathing remark the outspoken author said Kate is not so much of a womb, but she has to be a mother. She hopes after the second baby Kate stops.

The duchess cancelled a trip to Malta last week after suffering acute morning sickness.

The illness, hyperemesis gravidarum, which she also suffered during her first pregnancy, causes extreme nausea and vomiting, and can lead to dehydration.

The duchess’s only role was to be a mother, Greer said, despite being “a great deal more intelligent than the rest of the royals”.

Greer said the whole thing is a "mad anachronism".

The duchess graduated from the University of St Andrews with a degree in art history and second class honours, but Greer suggested the duchess was stifled and unable to be “spontaneous” or have an interest in the art she studied.

Greer in an attacking mood said how the Royal family stifled Kate's interest and dictated her speech and thought.

According to her Kate has no right to do or say anything spontaneous. Spontaneity will get her in trouble with the family.

It’s not the first time Greer has caused controversy by commenting on the appearance of high profile women, including the election-night outfits of Michelle Obama and her two daughters.

In March 2012, Greer was roundly criticised in Australia for making negative comments about the former prime minister Julia Gillard.
