Fresh Christmas trees: Where to buy in Dubai?

With the sweet breeze blowing and the festivity in the air we all know Christmas is here.

You might not be able to go out with an axe and pick up your tree but that shouldn't dampen your spirits. If you want a real Christmas tree you will get one in the UAE.

Fresh Christmas trees have arrived at the Jebel Ali Port, having travelled through the Suez Canal from the Province of Nova Scotia, on Canada's Atlantic coast.

Oleanders Flowers in the UAE and the Lunenburg Balsam Fir Christmas Tree Co-op will provide fresh Balsam Fir trees.

Murray Crouse, President of the Lunenburg Balsam Fir Co-op said, "We are testing Nova Scotia Balsam for a potential new market in the UAE and surrounding areas."

You can place orders directly at Oleander Flowers both in Dubai and Abu Dhabi for a fresh and a lush Christmas tree.

That's not the only shipment that has docked in Dubai port. Fresh Flowers in Satwa has imported almost 500 fresh Fir trees from Canada.

"The demand for fresh tree is very high. Last year all my trees were sold out. I am expecting similar turnouts of buyers this year also," said Vicky owner of Fresh Flowers.

"Earlier mostly Europeans used to come looking for fresh trees but now everyone wants them," continued Vicky.

There are several outlets in the Satwa neighborhood of Plant Street, where you can look for trees imported from Holland or Canada.

All the Spinneys stores across the UAE will also house fresh trees. The Dubai Garden Centre is another place where you can scout your Christmas tree. And if you are not willing to do leg work you can have your tree with a click- order online. dxbflower.com  offers Balsam Fir or Nordmann variants of trees.

Ace Hardware on Shaikh Zayed Road and Festival City now has stock of fresh Nobilus Christmas Trees. Imported from Holland, Ace has got only one size available- 1.6M for Dh 399.

Price may vary on the density and height of the tree. Also different stores will put different price tag. A 5ft/6ft tree with good density will cost about Dh 400. If you are going for a table top, the lowest will cost you above Dh 200. Most of the trees are not decorated.

Some of these stores also have stock of fresh decorated and undecorated wreaths and stands for your tree.

Fresh Flowers in Satwa and Ace Hardware deliver the goods on extra payment.

Generally the trees last for two months but demands maintenance.

There are a few things to keep in mind to keep the tree looking good all season.

Look for the freshest tree and check for dried leaves. It's best to pick a tree that is at least a foot shorter than the ceiling.

Try not to place it too close to a fireplace or heating duct. Keep the tree hydrated. The amount of water in the tree stand should be watched. If the water level gets below the bottom of the tree, it can be hard to restart the flow of water again. You can even spray water on leaves. Never expose the tree to sunlight.

With a large expatriate population residing in the UAE, the news of fresh Fir trees is a blessing during Christmas.

So go out and hunt your fresh tree.
