Christmas tree sales in Dubai are defying the economic trends, with supermarkets in the country claiming that tree sales are up this year, along with the prices.

A Christmas tree is the most important piece when it comes to decorating the house during yuletide.

With a few days remaining before Christmas, if you haven’t purchased one yet, we make your life easier by providing you with a last-minute guide to buying an artificial Christmas tree in Dubai.

While most supermarkets tagged exorbitant price to the trees initially, they now seem to be giving them away at cheaper rates thanks to the impending festival, after which all unsold trees will have to wait another year on the supermarkets’ stocks.

Home Centre

Lifestyle store Home Centre sells trees up to 10 foot tall. An undecorated 5-foot green pine-like needle tree will cost Dh129. A 10-footer which was earlier Dh925 is now available at Dh499. There are trees with optics fiber lights, a 150cm tall one will cost Dh 139. If you’re short of space at home, you can buy a half tree, which fits against the wall. A 180cm half tree will be around Dh65. All the trees are imported from China.

Carrefour

If you’re comfortable with the crowded Carrefour, a green plastic 210cm tree comes for Dh129. A 200cm green good quality plastic white-tipped needle tree will cost Dh479. Go for a black Christmas tree if green is boring, Dh119 for a 150cm tree. Carrefour also has snowy tree which is around Dh299 for a 180cm tree. Table top trees here range from Dh24 to Dh64.

Daiso

White tipped gives a feeling of snow on the tip of the trees. If you are looking for a tree full of snow rush to Daiso Japanese store. They have a 7ft costing Dh240 and a 3ft costing Dh120 tree completely covered in artificial snow. A simple white Christmas tree with no snow is also an available option. A 7ft will be around Dh99. Normal green fiber 8ft and a 7fttree in this store will cost Dh180 and Dh150 respectively.

Geant

Geant has green 10 footer plastic tree that costs around Dh199. The supermarket also has 5ft-Dh65, 6ft-Dh75, 7ft-Dh199 and 9ft-Dh399. Another space saver is the conical trees in which a 6ft will cost Dh299. The store has 5ft inverted Christmas tree for Dh199.  Geant imports all Christmas materials from China, Hong Kong and the US.

Al Maya Supermarket

Al Maya supermarket stocks different kinds of table tops. A highly decorated table top tree will be around Dh130. The jazzed up trees will have fiber-optic lights, decorative items and some also revolve with the help of battery. You can also pick up a simple one for Dh30. A pre decorated greenplastic 3ft tree will be Dh200. Undecorated 5ft for Dh170, 7ft for Dh230.

Choithram

Choithram supermarket in Bur Dubai has limited stocks left for the remaining season. The store now has only 5 footer, 4 footer and 3footer left which costs Dh70, Dh55 and Dh40 respectively.

Spinneys

The tallest Christmas tree in Spinneys store, Deira is8foot. The store has three different types of 8 footer and depending on the density plus the number of plastic branches the price varies from Dh365,Dh350to Dh100.

Others

Ace hardware in Sheikh Zayed road does not store trees below 6 foot which is Dh99. Different types of table tops are of course available in the store. Imported from Canada and Holland, the trees in Ikea store, Festival City, are now out of stock.

If burning a hole in your pocket is not an issue, Artikel in the Mall of Emirates is definitely a place worth a visit. The most expensive tree in Artikel is Dh8,200. Wondering why? Store executives told Emirates 24|7 that the quality of the tree is as good as a fresh one.

Imported from Sweden the tree has the finest quality of needle leaves which is unbreakable rubber material mixed with plastic leaves which will not fall off. Scout for red, black, blue even an orange colour glossy plastic material tree costing around Dh1750.

A 210cm inverted green plastic tree with good density costs around Dh720. One tree that might excite your imagination is a revolving-foldable-spring tree. Yes, you read that right. You can easily fold the tree flat and store it in a drawer once the season is over. A 5-foot foldable tree is available for Dh1,500. The smallest tree, 150cm with LED lights attached, is Dh490. Many of the trees in the store are also imported from Spain.

Executives in all supermarkets reiterate that there may be a difference in prices for a same height tree, primarily because of a difference in the quality of the leaves. The density and height also play a vital role while pricing a tree. A pre-decorated tree will also be more expensive than an undecorated tree. For instance, a tree with attached lights will obviously be more expensive than one without.

So now you know what to find where, we suggest you rush to chop – or rather shop – your tree before stores run out of stock.
