Saying 'no' on wedding night can end marriage

Published

Denying sex by either of the spouse on the wedding night can lead to dissolution of marriage in India.

In a case where a man lodged a complaint against his wife for a 'sex starved marriage', the Delhi High Court upheld the verdict of a lower court in favour of the husband.

The man claimed his wife not only refused to entertain him but was also 'never responsive and was like a dead wood...', reported Times of India.

The justice, while issuing the verdict, said "sex is the foundation of marriage and marriage without sex is an anathema", the report added.

In the five months they were married the couple had sex only 10-15 times, the man alleged. To which the court replied, in its verdict, that it was not as much of the number rather "the wife's cruel act of denying sex to the husband especially on the first night and then not actively participating even for the said limited period for which no contrary suggestion was given by the wife," the paper said.
