McDonald's is set to open its biggest ever store just minutes away from the site of the 2012 London Olympics.

The new restaurant will be able to seat 1500 people and is half the length of an American football field, the Daily Mail reports.

It's one of four McDonald's restaurants set to open at the Olympic site, and it has been claimed one in five meals purchased at the Games will be a McDonald's meal.

That could mean around 50,000 Big Macs, 100,000 sets of fries and near 30,000 milkshakes will be sold during the tournament.

The fast food chain is set to hire 470 staff for the megastore, while around 2000 staff are expected to man the counters at all the restaurants over the course of the Games.

"In our main restaurant at Olympic Park, every hour will be three times as busy as our current busiest outlet in the UK," said UK vice-president Steve Easterbrook.

"Around 14 million meals will be sold, of which a McDonald's meal will be one in five."

However, there have been claims the big push from McDonald's goes against the healthy lifestyle message that London organisers have been promoting since they won they bid.

"McDonald's has been a committed Olympic sponsor and has a wide range of programs to encourage people to keep fit.," A member of the Olympics team told the Daily Mail.

"There will also be a wide range of foods available to members of the public."

McDonald's has been a long-standing sponsor of the Olympics, and has been the only branded retailer feeding athletes for the past nine consecutive Games.
