2 Asian drug convicts saved from gallows

A court of appeals in Abu Dhabi saved the life of two Asian men when it overturned a previous death verdict and sentenced them to 10 years in prison after they were convicted of possessing drugs.

A court of first instance had sentenced the two to death after they confessed to possessing opium although they insisted the stuff was for personal use not trading.

“The court of appeals reduced the sentence against the two to 10 years in prison and fined them Dh100,000, It also ordered their deportation after completing their jail terms,” the Arabic language daily Al Khaleej said.
