Police in Abu Dhabi’s western region arrested three men, including two illegal residents, on charges of stealing charity boxes in 26 mosques in that area and other parts of the UAE.

The three, one from another Gulf country and two Arabs, used metal tools to break into the mosques and steal donations boxes which are used in charity work.

Police identified the three as HA, 31 from another Gulf state, HM 26 and MR 26, adding that the three confessed to robbing the mosques in various parts of the country.

“They carried out burglaries after midnight. They broke into 26 mosques and smashed the boxes containing donations for charity,” said Colonel Ujail Ali Al Junaibi, director of the western region’s police.
