Arab coalition set to seize Sanaa: report

Saudi-led Arab coalition forces fighting to end the Houthi rebellion and restore legitimacy in Yemen have stepped up reinforcements around the capital Sanaa and are expected to seize it within a few days, according to coalition sources.

Thousands of coalition troops and legitimate Yemeni fighters have already massed just outside Al Hazm city, the capital of Al Jawf province, which is around 140km northwest of Sanaa, the sources said, quoted by the UAE Arabic language daily ‘Al Bayan’.

The report said coalition troops have already reached Al Labnat military camp controlled by the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels and their allies, and that fighting is underway to seize that camp, which is close to Al Hazm.

“More coalition troops and resistance fighters are pouring in the area around Al Hazm city, which is expected to be the scene of major military operations shortly.

“This means that Sanaa will be liberated within a few days,” ‘Al Bayan’ said, quoting those sources.

It said allied troops and Yemen resistance fighters are pushing their way through Al Jawf province near the border with Saudi Arabia, backed by coalition jets, which are combing the area and targeting the remaining Houthi positions.

It added that the coalition forces are planning to seize the entire Al Jawf province and advance towards the northern province of Saada.

“The aim is to cut off Saada from Sanaa and other areas. Coalition sources expect this front to flare up in the next few days with the aim of destroying three main positions for the Houthis and their allies,” the report said.
