Colombo - Customs Director and Media Spokesman, Leslie Gamini has said that a 50-year-old Sri Lankan, who was attempting to smuggle 600g gold worth SLR3 million, was arrested on Monday at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), the ‘Daily Mirror’ reported.

The suspect from Negombo, on his way to Mumbai, was behaving in a suspicious manner in the departure lounge and the Customs officials later found gold biscuits hidden in his rectum after he was body checked.

He was about to board a Mumbai-bound UL141 flight around 11.45 pm.

He was a frequent traveler to India and was released by Deputy Director of Customs Deepal Siriwardana after paying a fine of SLR25,000 and having the contraband confiscated.
