Los Angeles Airport has reopened after a man dressed in a ‘Zorro’ costume caused a scare at the busy terminal, sparking reports of possible gunfire.

At 9.45am UAE time, Los Angeles Airport officials posted on its official Twitter account: “Upper/Departures and Lower/Arrivals Levels of Central Terminal Area (CTA) are now open. Please check with your airline for flight status.”

The authority further tweeted: “Individual in Zorro costume has been detained by LA Airport PD.”

The authority added that Terminals 1, 2 and TBIT have been cleared and repopulated, with passengers being re-screened.

Earlier on Monday morning UAE time, part of the busy Los Angeles International Airport was closed due to unconfirmed reports of gunfire.

Panicked travellers took to social media to report of passengers fleeing from the terminals, with another video surfacing that showed the police authorities arrest a man dressed as the fictitious caped crusader, Zorro.

Twitter user Sam Macon ‏also posted a video of ‘Zorro’s’ arrest by Los Angeles Airport Police Department, saying: “Before things got really crazy - a man in a Zorro costume with a plastic sword was arrested.”
