Car crash leaves 8 dead in northeastern Brazil

Police in northeastern Brazil say eight people are dead following a head-on car crash that also left three others seriously injured.

The accident occurred Thursday night near the city of Esplanada, some 200 kilometers (125 miles) from the Bahia state capital of Salvador.

Police say they are investigating the cause of the accident.

Seven of the victims, including a woman and her daughter, died instantly. Another person died shortly after arriving in a hospital.
