Check out Gaddafi's 'safest car in the world'

Maverick leader had designed the 'Libyan Rocket' himself

Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has always been internationally recognised for his vibrant fashion sense, sleeping in Bedouin tents wherever he goes, wearing huge provocative buttons, being guarded by heavily armed women, just to name a few.

However, a report on Yahoo! Now features a car he designed for himself, which Libya claims is the safest vehicle on earth.

The Saroukh El Jamahiriya, which means Libyan rocket, is a five-seater saloon with the nose and tail of a rocket and powered by a 230bhp V6. Launched at a conference called the Organisation of African Unity and organised by Colonel Gaddafi in 2009, the Libyan Rocket comes with airbags, an electronic defense system and collapsible bumpers that supposedly help out in a crash…

The report quotes Dukhali Al Meghareff, chairman of the Libyan Arab Domestic Investment company which produced the prototype, as saying, "The leader spent so many hours of his valuable time thinking of an effective solution. It is the safest car produced anywhere."

Gaddafi should have escaped in that car if he trusted it.

Poor Gaddafi, now bring this car to Abu Shagara in Sharjah.

'Makes a good standout target for the rebels. If it is indeed heavily armored, 230hp does not make it much of a 'Rocket'. 'Probably geared like a Humvee - blazing across the dunes at maybe 60mph? But hey, who knows what requirements he had in mind. Have you ever wondered why he is still only a Colonel?

That's his new residence - if it survives the bombings.

best way to test it would be to drive it around a city controlled by rebels.
