A Kuwait court on Sunday sentenced a local woman to death after she was convicted of avenging her husband’s second marriage by setting his packed wedding tent on fire, killing 57 women and children two years ago.

Nasra Yussef Mohammed Al Enezi, 23, could be the first Kuwaiti women to be executed for committing the carnage in Agust 2009, local papers said Sunday.

Her husband first reaction to the court sentence was :”let her go to hell,” according to the Kuwaiti papers.

“This is a 100 per cent fair verdict…once she is executed, I will again go to the families of all the victims and offer condolence…I can sleep with clear conscience from now on as I had been afraid that the court might not sentence her to death,” the husband, Zayed Dafiri, said.

Nasra was not present at court when the verdict was issued. Death sentences in Kuwait are carried out by hanging but must first be ratified by the Emir.

Local press reports at the time of the blaze said Nasra had wanted to avenge her husband's "bad treatment" to her, but in court she denied any involvement in the incident. But she later confessed to starting the fire.
