Dust storm forecast for UAE

A dust storm has been forecast to kick up today and possibly tomorrow according to a report in ‘Al Bayan’ newspaper, quoting the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS).

Wind accompanied with dust will lead to low horizontal visibility, less than 400 metres in some areas.

Rainfall in the east and west is also on the forecast.

A study conducted by the NCMS on dust and sandstorms affecting the UAE showed that the geographical location of the UAE is key to this weather system.

According to the study, major dust storms affecting the UAE can forming on the Iraq border, Iran and even the Afghanistan-Pakistan  border,  apart from the Empty Quarter.

The study indicated that more frequent cases of air masses flowing across the UAE come from Iran, followed by air masses flowing from Saudi Arabia and then from Iraq.

The National Center of Meteorology and Seismology has forecast that the average humidity for August would range between 63 per cent and 80 per cent.

The NCMS forecast that the humidity today (Tuesday) could go as high as 90 per cent.

The highest temperature recorded in the UAE yesterday was 49.6 degrees Celsius in the Al Mezaira'a area at 3.30 pm.

The areas of Saih Al Sa’adi and Al Ghail witnessed heavy rains yesterday, while Al Fayah, Al Falag and Al Maleha witnessed moderate rains.

The National Center of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has forecast a raft of weather conditions for the UAE. Dust, heat and rain are all on the weather map for this week, depending where you are in the UAE, ‘Al Bayan’ reports.

Cumulus clouds in the eastern and western areas and will be accompanied by rainfall of varying intensity, NCMS said. The NCMS then indicated that dust would billow over the next two days decreasing visibility,

Finally, the temperature in most parts of the UAE will be hot, to extremely hot.

The centre pointed out that "the UAE is affected by hot and dry winds originating in the Empty Quarter” which can cause a substantial rise in temperatures.

Copious amounts of rainfall were recorded across  the UAE yesterday, breaking the intense heat sweeping the nation.

The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology has forecast clouds and rain for today as well, accompanied by strong winds kicking up dust.

The city of Al Ain in particular saw the most rainfall yesterday. It led to a significant drop in temperatures there.

Ras Al Khaimah yesterday also experienced rainfall and strong winds, which led to a drop in temperatures.

Families were reported rushing to RAK mountain peaks and the surrounding areas to enjoy the cooler weather.
