Dh100k Emirates ID scam: Woman held

A 33-year-old Filipina clerk employed at Emirates Post is accused of allegedly embezzling Dh100,000 by under-reporting the fees companies paid for Emirates ID cards.

AA would collect the application fees then forge receipts, using one receipt in white for the customer, which had the correct amount and then filing an official receipt in pink with a lesser amount.

Prosecutors told the Dubai Criminal Court that she managed to embezzle Dh97,495 between March to October 2012 in this manner.

In court she confessed, saying she had sent the money to the Philippines to pay for the medical treatment of her sick father.

Yousuf Mohammed, 34, Director of Customer Support at Emirates Post testified that the scam came to light when employees were transferred between departments and those  that took over from AA reported that some companies had under-paid for Emirates ID cards for their employees.

The companies when contacted showed their receipts. A financial audit followed and the accused was arrested.

A verdict is expected on March 27.

Chinese on visit visa arrested for car theft

A 24-year-old Chinese in the country on a visit visa, is accused of breaking into a car and stealing a bag containing different currencies, air tickets and a trade licence.
The victim, ANA, Iraqi, called the police at around 10pm complaining that his car’s rear glass was broken and a bag in the car that contained $10,000, IR2,000, a passport, air ticket and 2 bonds were missing.

Police arrested LZ for his involvement in similar theft cases.
Confronting him with this theft, he confessed.
“I with others two friends broke the rear glass with a screw driver and stole the bag which was in the car,” he admitted to Corporal Saif Sulaiman.

The accused recognised the car of the victim when it was shown to him in a picture.
The court will issue its verdict on March 31.
