Eleven mothers from India were flown in to the UAE to reunite with their sons here.

This was part of a community welfare initiative of Hit 96.7 FM– a Malayalam radio station.

Kaviyoor Ponnamma – a senior film actress – was the star attraction. This is the sixth year Hit 96.7 is organising family reunions through ‘Click on for your mom’ programme.

Hashim, one of the listeners nominated not only his own mother, but also an aged couple from his village back home. Eighty-seven-year old Thresiamma, the eldest among the 11 moms, met her son Peter Ouseph, a driver in Dubai.

Abu Ali, 35, a driver in Abu Dhabi has not been to his hometown for the last nine years. His mom flew down to meet him.

Most of those who made it to the final list of the programme are the low-income employees. Rafiq, a watchman working for a company in Discovery Gardens, met his mom after five years.

Similar is the story of most of the other mothers who was brought in to meet their sons.

“Life is very difficult for aged parents in Kerala. Everybody is busy and working couples do not have time to take care of their parents,” Ponnamma said in an interaction with the media. “I used to get numerous offers earlier to play the mother. But now, the new generation movie makers and script writers have no role for moms. This is a new reality.”

RJs of the radio station are taking care of the elderly visitors, showing them around Dubai.
