113 kids forgotten in car by Dubai families

Many families in Dubai are still neglecting their children despite repeated police appeals as 113 kids were forgotten inside cars and exposed to danger in the first 10 months of 2014, according to police data.

Most of the incidents involved children simply forgotten by their families or those who sneak into the vehicle or its boot behind the back of their parents.

“In all cases, there has been negligence by the families…they should know that leaving a child inside the car could cause him or her a heat shock, which leads to a sharp rise in body temperatures and consequently to the child’s death,” the semi-official daily Al Ittihad said, quoting Major Abdullah Ali Mohammed, head of the land rescue division in Dubai’s general administration for transport and rescue.

“During summer, the high temperatures could kill a child locked inside a car in just 40 minutes…the mere fact that a child is forgotten inside a car is scary.”
