Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Public Works, has launched a new initiative (Masar) for monitoring and patrolling federal roads.

He said the ministry will run customised vehicles to conduct daily monitoring and patrolling of federal roads to report any damage to asphalt layers, lighting systems, directional signs and safety requirements.

He added that his ministry allocates more than Dh150 million, yearly, for routine maintenance, protection and improvement of the federal road network and related infrastructure.

''Vehicles operating under Masar initiative will be connected with smart e-system which will send data which will enable the ministry to take prompt measures to maintain road quality and ensure smooth vehicular movement,'' he said, adding that these patrol vehicles will be hooked up with smart services package the ministry will launch in future.

He explained that these vehicles can receive complaints online and take swift action on site.

He said that 25 e-sensors were installed to monitor quality and traffic density of the federal road network and five axle weigh checkpoints were also installed.

Jaber Jasim, Director of Road Department, said the initiative uses eco-friendly, safe customised vehicles measure performance of roads.
