Published

An Emirati turned over three of his nephews to Dubai Police for dangerous driving. This is a first-of-its-kind incident says top official.

Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Director, Traffic, Dubai Police, was quoted by local dailies as saying that the Esnad team had noticed four vehicles racing dangerously at night from Tai area towards Oud Mutainah and Mazher, then to Khawaneej area at breakneck speeds.

The police team managed to intercept them and caught one of the drivers, while the other three fled.

The nabbed motorist, inturn, called his uncle Ahmed Shakhbout Kaabi and informed him that police are on the lookout for the other three of his relatives.

Within a short period, Kaabi not only arrived at the police station along with the three men but also requested police to take necessary action against them.

One of the drivers admitted to driving at 215kpmh, Al Zafeen said.

The police official said this was the first time a guardian approached police to surrender his children to cops for their misdeeds. Usually guardians contact police to request they pardon their offspring or to be lenient, he added.
