30% discounts on traffic fines beginning today

Offer valid until December 11 for motorists making full payment of fines accumulated before September 10

Beginning today (September 11), motorists can avail of a discount of 30 per cent on full payment of traffic fines.

The offer is valid only for three months beginning September 11 up to December 11, which would only be extended if a decision to that effect is taken, according to a top official.

The discount will be valid for traffic accumulated before September 10.The decision will include fines on vehicles, registered in Dubai or other Emirates in addition to vehicles from GCC countries, as long as the fines were issued in Dubai, reported 'Gulf Today'.

The decision will include fines on vehicles, registered in Dubai or other Emirates in addition to vehicles from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, as long as the fines were issued in Dubai.

According to Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, director-general of the directorate, the decision also includes the extended detention of vehicles.

The discount will run for only three months beginning September 11 until December 11, which would only be extended if a decision to that effect is taken, he added.

Dubai Police have created many channels to facilitate payment of fines, including the Departments of the traffic in Deira and Bur Dubai, all police stations, offices of vehicle registration, automatic payment machines deployed in malls and other places, the internet, Emirates Bank, and offices of the Road and Transport Authority (RTA).

Zafeen pointed out that the reduction would not include violations, which were issued after September 10, nor those fines slapped for delay in paying for violations of advertising fines, which is Dh10 for every month delay in payment. The reduction would also not include the fines that are paid in installments, or those paid by cheque.

Motorists who own more than one vehicle will benefit from the discount only if they pay all the fines on their traffic register, Zafeen added.

Zafeen said the accumulated fines totalled about Dh365 million.

I think this is such a bad idea. Sounds like amnesty. For settlement of debt, a discount is given. Dangerous drivers are encouraged to repeat their mistakes. I don't think it will help the already worse driving attitudes of some drivers.

Sounds for the benifit of the people, thats good. But still fines are very high. Salik is also a problem, and they should link Salik to credit card or directly to the bank accounts as no fines will be there. Who would not want to pay Dh5 and instead end up with thoudands of fines. This should also be considered.
