The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has so far completed 55 percent of the Mleiha Road Development Project in Sharjah, which is expected to be fully completed during the first quarter of next year, as part of the initiatives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The project’s estimated total cost is around Dh174 million, and it will extend from the Al Badi intersection to Sheikh Khalifa Road in Fujairah, a distance of 42 kilometres.

Hassan Jumaa Al Mansouri, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, stated that the nature of this project is different from other projects, as it links two areas that witness heavy traffic throughout the week. This requires a creative solution, to complete this project without affecting traffic while implementing it over a period of two years, he added.

He stressed that the work is going according to the approved plans while noting that the project will be completed within the planned time frame, due to the joint co-operation between relevant authorities and the ministry’s vital role as the executive arm of the federal government.

He highlighted the desire of the ministry, as per the directives of Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development, to comply with and implement the best international standards in road construction projects.

Al Mansouri noted that such projects are considered among the major pillars of sustainable development in the UAE, due to their key role in achieving economic growth and social prosperity, by facilitating transportation between the emirates of the nation and its vital cities, as well as linking them to various national access points, according to the best international standards that have placed the UAE in the first position in terms of road quality on an international level.
