6 villa schools to close in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain

Six villa schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain will close down this summer in accordance with the government’s plan to relocate students attending villa schools to purpose-built facilities.

More than 3,200 students studying in these villa schools move to three new private schools at govt facilities for the next academic year, reported 'Khaleej Times'.

Baraem Al Aqsa Private School, Badr Al Kobr Private School and Al Ekhlass Private School in Abu Dhabi and Al Amal Private School, International Private School and Zahrat Al Madain Private School in Al Ain follow the UAE Ministry OF Education (MoE) curriculum.

The new schools will start operations this September from the buildings formerly known as Al Dana School (Abu Dhabi Island), Al Mutasem School (Baniyas) and Al Sarooj School (Al Ain).

About 1,650 students in Abu Dhabi Island and 1,600 students in Al Ain will have priority placement in the new schools but  Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) urged parents to register their children by the end of July at any of these schools as the new schools will open up registration for other students on August 1.

Yousif Al Sheryani, Executive Director for Private Schools and Quality Assurance at Adec said "the new schools will remain affordable with only a slight 20 per cent increase. “It i not a significant increase considering that they are moving to a purpose-built school".

In September, 43 villa schools will remain in operation, which are scheduled to close down by 2013.
