A six-year-old Pakistani boy suffered medium injuries after he was knocked over by a ‘Saaed’ police car while crossing the road in Sharjah on Sunday.

The same police car rushed the boy to Al Qassimi Hospital.

The semi-official daily Al Ittihad said the boy was admitted to the pediatrics section and quoted doctors as saying he could be discharged within two days.

Saudi baby forgotten in car dies

A three-year-old Saudi girl suffocated to death after her father forgot her in the car for nearly three hours, a newspaper in the Gulf kingdom reported on Sunday.

The man told police he went for shopping and left his daughter in the car, thinking she was at home, the Arabic language daily ‘Al Watan’ said.

It said the man rushed his daughter to hospital in the western town of Medina but doctors found that she was already dead because of soaring summer temperatures.

70-year-old marries 17-year-old girl

A Saudi man in his 70s married a 17-year-old local girl although he already has two wives and the conservative Gulf Kingdom is locked in a drive to curb child marriages.

The man paid SR25,000 (Dh25,000) dowry to the bride’s family in the western town of Taif in line with Islamic law requiring grooms to pay for their bride’s relatives.

“I performed the marriage which was witnessed by the bride’s parents and brothers,” Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al Kanani said, quoted by Sabq newspaper.

Saudi Arabia, the largest Arab economy, has been locked in a campaign to stem child marriages following local and international furor about such practices in the Gulf Kingdom. Officials last year spoke of a plan to enact laws to curb child marriages.
