8-metre dead whale found off Fujairah

An eight-metre dead whale was found off the coast of Fujairah and port officials said they had towed it to shore for the disposal of competent authorities, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

The whale was already dead when port vessels sighted it in the territorial waters of the eastern emirate, Fujeirah port manager Captain Mousa Murad told the Sharjah-based Arabic language daily Alkhaleej.

He said the whale, weighing several tonnes, had apparently been pushed into the emirate’s waters towards the port area by strong sea currents but he did not mention causes of its death.

Mousa said the port had informed the Ministry of Environment, the Municipality and Emirates University about the whale.
