Abu Dhabi imposes parking fee for motorcycles

Abu Dhabi has imposed parking fees on all motorcycles parked in paid parking zones of the emirate.

The Department of Transport (DoT) has announced that motorcycles – whether owned by individuals or private companies – have to pay and use public parking space, Sharjah-based Arabic language daily Al Khaleej reported.

The DoT said motorcycles will be considered as cars and any non-compliance of the paid parking rule will attract a fine of Dh500 for each offence.

The decision was taken since motorcycles occupy paid parking space normally reserved for cars and bigger vehicles.

Expressing their dissatisfaction at the new rule, motorcyclists said the DoT will have to ensure that no one picks the parking slips that can only be placed on their bikes, unlike cars where they can be placed on the dash boards.

They sought dedicated parking for motorcycles to address the issue.
