Restaurants and cafeterias in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman have increased the price of biryani by between Dh2 and Dh4.

Owners have attributed the hike to an increase in meat and commodity prices.

“We have been selling chicken biryani at Dh10 per plate for more than two years. However, recently we have increased the price to Dh12 because the price of chicken, mutton, fish and other commodities have gone up. Even drinking water companies and cooking gas companies have been increasing their prices,” said the manager of an Indian restaurant in Al Qouz Mall, Dubai.

The manager of Eat and Drink Restaurant that has many outlets in various parts of Dubai said: “We have increased the price of chicken biryani to Dh 13. Price of mutton biryani and fish biryani is Dh16. We have increased the menu price, after many other restaurants in the surrounding areas have started increasing prices.”

Tea and biryani prices remain steady in the UAE for years together, as cafeterias are well aware that these are the basic foods for many expats here in the UAE.
