Dubai bling: Spa parties for little girls ‘in’ thing

Times are changing fast and preferences are changing faster.

The normal birthdays, as a person of my age would define, seem so outdated to the young ladies (dare I say little ones?) in Dubai. The silly-looking clown, bouncy castles and the host singing the happy birthday song along with a Mickey Mouse are so passé.

The youngest generation prefers it chic and classy – a party of the privileged few at a nice spa with some pampering than a big crowd of children running in the backyard or possibly in one of the party zones in the city.

And there are plenty of options to choose from. Daddy’s little girls can go to Color Nail for a spa party for some pampering and spending time with friends. The place caters to girls between the age-group of 3 and 12 years.

Spa parties for three-year-old girls? Really?

Yes, it is true – as a number of people made this reporter aware. “We have two options – Dh110 and Dh130 per child. The package includes manicure, pedicure, hair colour, hair braiding, body tattoo, make-up, lip gloss etc.,” party organisers at Color Nail told this website.

“The party hosts can also organise a fashion show, where the kids will be given accessories and will be dressed up to walk down the ramp. There’s also the option of disco,” she added.

Does this really sound like a kid’s party? There will still be balloons and food, which will still include chicken nuggets, we were told – at least something that sounds familiar.

But Color Nail is not the only one offering pampering parties for little girls. Dubai’s Hello Kitty Spa also caters to the young divas. “We look forward to welcoming you, indulging you and letting your inner beauty sparkle,” reads a message on its website.

On the menu is Kitty-cure (where little paws are sweetly scrubbed and massaged with your nails filed and delightfully painted); Toe-Tally Perfect (feet get scrubbed and kneaded, revealing unbelievable softness); Hand Massage; Foot Massage; Kitty Nail Art; Hair-dooz; Kitty Day Make up; Kitty Glam facials – oatmeal, honey or chocolate; Kitty Beauty face masque, which “will reveal a more luminous complexion with our organic beauty face masque, ideal for getting back your skin’s glow and you’ll know why wonders never cease!” reads the website.

We wonder if kids that age can grasp all this information, but going by the response that organisers claim they are receiving, such parties are a hit!

“Hello Kitty Beauty Spa is a luxurious venue for Princess Birthday celebrations and bachelorette parties. Hello Kitty Beauty Spa posh pampers all their Princesses and turns their day to an unforgettable memory. We specialise in one-of-a-kind party entertainment and elegant bachelorette parties, and want every Princess’s day to be the best one ever. We offer our princesses a Hello Kitty character themed party with various packages to choose from,” a spokesperson for Hello Kitty spa said.

“The packages vary from Posh Pampering Package to VIP (Very Important Princess) Package. Packages include spa services, welcome board, pink carpet, spa robes, pink lemonade upon arrival, karaoke, invitation cards, and lastly a surprise for the princess.  A Hello Kitty mascot may also be arranged for the party upon request. We also offer an A La Carte menu to choose from more services such as birthday or bachelorette cake, Hello Kitty cupcakes and cake pops, candy bar, pink limousine, and etc. Hello Kitty Beauty Spa ensures that all our Princesses experience the most luxurious, unforgettable, and magnificent royal party!” she added.

Spa Party Room at the Zebra Lounge is fast becoming the destination for young girls on birthdays. They cater to young girls up to the age of 10 and can accommodate 25 kids.

“I’ve been ferrying my seven year old to these kind of parties and will have to throw one for her when she turns eight. I was a bit shocked but it’s slowly sinking in,” said the mother of two kids living in Dubai.

“It’s funny that sometimes they smudge their make-up and nail paint the moment they step out of the party and then sit and weep. Kids will be kids. We are not discussing Jumeirah Janes. Are we?” added the mother, reassuring herself with a loud laugh.
