A brave Indian driver averted a disaster in Umm Al Quwain when he steered a large truck that caught fire out of the road and headed for a paint factory, where he tried to use water to put the blaze out.
The driver was in his truck when one tyre caught fire, prompting him to continue driving out of Umm Al Thaoub area in the northern emirate in search of water.
He then headed for a paint factory and smashed its way into the site, where he stopped the vehicle and used the plant’s water pipes to extinguish the blaze.
“He tried to put the fire out but it started to spread…he then phoned the civil defence,” the semi official daily Alittihad said.
It quoted UAQ civil defence chief, Lt Colonel Hassan bin Saram, as saying fire men rushed to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control after it destroyed the tyre and the driver’s cabin.
Saram said no one was hurt in the accident and the damage was confined to the truck.
