A fire was reported in the parking lot of Shatha Tower in Dubai’s Media City this morning, leading to the building being evacuated.

Two fire engines, a police car and an ambulance were at the scene. A man was seen being given oxygen outside the building as smoke billowed out from the parking entrance.

A tweet from @auricknwal said:  “Fire at level B1of Shatha Tower. Rushed through stairs from 19th floor, got the car out from P2. Ohh what a day! Good still alive!.”

Dubai Civil Defence confirmed the fire happened and what social media reports had claimed - that a car caught fire in the basement.

According to one tweet it was a Mini Cooper that burst into flames.

Another person who works at an office in the building said that as soon as the fire alarm went off, the building was evacuated and the fire brigade and civil defence teams were on the spot in less than 10 minutes.

The car was safely secured and by 12.15pm people were let back into the tower.
