Your eyes may be set on a house you spotted two years ago and since then, you may be working hard to save enough to put down the mandatory 25 per cent.

Your two years of hard work will definitely be a big amount for you and your family but did you know that in some cases this amount may be just one month’s paycheque of your team leader?

Do you like him? If not, then let’s just call them offenders. Globally, stastics show that in the worst case scenario, one offender earned a salary that was equivalent to 1,000 employees in the company.

Then, there are bosses (also offenders, but not of gravity defying magnitude), who can take home a salary that is equivalent 200 or 250 employees put together.

Let’s take a look at the salaries of our bosses in the UAE and you can judge for yourself if they are offenders, fair players or even under-paid.

On an average, the base salary of a CEO in a Tier 1 company in Dubai could be around Dh2,204,006 ($600,000). But that isn’t it – the CEO of a big multi-national company would earn that much in just base salary (Dh2,204,006). In addition, there will be bonus, housing, car and other perks.

Figures by Charterhouse show the average base salary of a CEO in the two lucrative sectors in the country – oil & gas and the construction sector – was around Dh1,200,000.

However, this range varies with each company and its financial situation. This can range dramatically, as factors impacting remuneration – salary, bonus (discretionary and/or company performance-based) and profit sharing – can vary based on company size and industry as well as macroeconomic factors.

Figures by Hays, a recruitment company, show that if you are in accounting and finance, your Group CFO may have taken home Dh100,000 per month last year (Dh1.2 million per year); the average salary of a CFO (large company) was Dh80,000 (Dh960,00 per annum) whereas that of a mid-size firm it was Dh60,000 per month (Dh720,000 per year).

If you are in the construction industry, your project director may have made Dh70,000 (Dh840,000 per year) and those facilities management got a salary of Dh55,000 (Dh660,000 per annum).

A group HR director took a salary of up to Dh55,000 per month.

The CEO of a large hospital or medical facility got a paycheque of between Dh70,000 and Dh150,000 per month in 2012 (between Dh840,000 and Dh1.8 million per year).

Those in IT must have seen their CIO (chief information officer) take home Dh50,000+ (Dh600,000+ per year) and a GM/country manager in logistics earned up to Dh65,000 (Dh780,000 per year).

A marketing director/head of marketing got up to Dh60,000 (Dh720,000 p.a.) in sales and marketing, a PR director/head of PR earned Dh50,000+ (Dh600,000+ p.a.) whereas the sales director/head of sales got Dh45,000+ (Dh540,000+ p.a.). The figures are averages based on data sourced from of Hays Recruitment.
