Ajman Police busted a gang of Arab nationals who specialized in forging bank cheques of companies.

The gang managed to encash 89 forged cheques worth Dh4.3 million.

Colonel Abdullah Al Hamrani, Deputy Chief of Ajman Police and Colonel Abdullah Al Matrooshi, Director-General, CID, Ajman Police, at a press conference said six members of the gang have been arrested, while Interpol has been alerted to nab two others who fled the country.

Police received complaints from several companies about withdrawal of cash from their bank accounts.

Investigations revealed that the gang collected genuine cheques from companies, which they sent outside the country to be forged, and that in turn was returned to them by courier to be used here.

They brought in visitors, opened accounts for them, in which they deposited the forged cheques. They allegedly paid these visitors to sign on blank cheques and then send them out of the country.

The gang siphoned off Dh772, 000 from one corporate account in Ajman using six forged cheques.

The gang was busted when cops caught one of the visitors, whose cheque got cleared before he could leave the country.

He confessed that he was brought in to sign on the blank cheques.
