Child escapes ceiling collapse

A two-year-old Emirati girl narrowly escaped when part of the ceiling of the bathroom at her shabby house in Dibba Fujeirah collapsed just minutes after she finished her bath and stepped out, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The girl was with her elder sister, who took her out of the bathroom after having a bath at their house in Ghoub area in the eastern UAE town, Albayan said.

“Just minutes after they got out of the bathroom, a large piece of the ceiling fell off…it could have hit my little daughter’s head had she stayed there,” the girl’s father Saeed Musbbah al Yamahi told the paper.

“This house is home to 11 family members…it is in a bad shape and could collapse altogether…I applied at Zayed housing programme for maintenance or a new house in 2005 but they have done nothing…they always point to some conditions which they say make me ineligible to get a new house.”
