Dubai Electricity and Electricity Water Authority (Dewa) has completed two 400 kV substations at a total cost of Dh900 million in the first half of this year, where one was built in the same period last year, said a senior official.

Dewa has also completed construction of 12 of the 132 kV substations, valued at Dh1.8 billion, where seven were built during the same period last year. These are part of Dewa’s strategy to enhance its transmission network, said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dewa.

“Dewa is working to improve the efficiency and reliability of its networks to support the completion of key projects, specifically those for infrastructure, to meet growing demand for its services. Our efforts accord with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to consolidate Dubai’s position as a global hub for trade, finance and tourism,” said Al Tayer.

“Dewa has also awarded a new contract to enhance the reliability and effectiveness of its high-voltage transmission network through the use of the most modern global technologies, such as Static Var Compensators.”

Dewa has other ongoing projects underway including two 400 kV substations valued at Dh960 million and laying a further 132 km of overhead lines and ground cables for its 400kV transmission network, worth Dh720 million. It is also working to create 27 more 132 kV substations at a projected cost of Dh1.5 billion with the laying of an additional 340 km of 132 kv cables, valued at Dh1.6 billion. Another 400 kV substation is due to go live along with 10 more 132 kV substations in the second half of this year.
