Dh100 Dubai Metro fine for music without headphones

Causing inconvenience, discomfort or distress to other passengers in any way will result in a fine

You may actually face the music if you aren’t using headphones on Dubai Metro.

The Road and Transport Authority (RTA), in response to a tweet on whether commuters can be fined if found listening to music without headphones on the Metro, said: “One needs to inform the RTA inspector and they will do the needful. The fine is Dh100.”

As per the RTA website, causing inconvenience, discomfort or distress to other passengers in any way whatsoever will result in a fine of Dh100.

Sophia Nash, who used the Metro every day, told Emirates 24|7: “I have seen some people just not bothered about other commuters. They listen to songs in their native languages without headphones.”

She added: “I used to request the person to lower the volume as I never knew there was a fine of Dh100 for such a violation.”

Another issue raised by Sunil Shah, a frequent Metro user, was that even if people have headphones the volume is so high, that it is quite annoying for passengers nearby.

“Apart from requesting, I believe I can’t do anything,” he said.

@Hamrash - you are clearly missing the point. everyone has body odor but some people are trying to do something about it to ensure they don't bother other people with it. some people just don't care at all which causes discomfort to others in public. it's all about proper personal hygiene. Eid mubarak!

@Freas....please READ our comments before you forward your expert questions....the issue is not about sweating...its body odour that CANNOT be acceptable for any reason....

@Khurram @Joseph; dont u guys sweat? r u planning to request for a rule to send people out of this world who sweat.
  • Khurram 14 August 2012 14:40 3 0
@Hamrash...please have no dellusions...i sweat a lot also but my body never smells bad....its all about personal hygeine which doesn't cost most than 5Dhs for even low-income people to carry a deo spray...i dont expect people to splash on Armani to board the metro...people who are unhygenic will always smells bad, whether they sweat or not..

@Khurram @Joseph: Its quiet annoying to say to slap people with bad odor. Do you think that your body odor is fine? One's body odor will be horrible for other which is well known fact.

For such a class service as Dubai Metro, it is important to have such fines in place. Dubai Metro is very clean and is doing a great job. Users need to be more disciplined as most of them are grown ups. THey should know how to behave in public or will be taught the hard way. It is not easy to run such a service if there are no rules to discipline the users from all nationalities.

You can't fine someone for playing music...

To overcome the Odor issue, RTA can install deodorant in toilets and maintain refresher in the metro.

fiza, i understand where joseph and khurram are coming from and i completely agree with them. if you take the metro, all metro stations have got a toilet where people can refresh themselves. sorry if they offended you but clearly, that was not their intention.

Joseph and khurram u guys might be working near the metro or working in a/c rooms, there are people who walk some distance or sometimes work out door and use metro. please dont offend people.
  • khurram 13 August 2012 09:40 19 15
oh yes...and people with bad body odour should be banned from the metro, not just fined!!
  • Khurram 13 August 2012 09:39 14 15
why are all the people in this 'society' offended by any signs and gestures that show that others are happy...so what if theres a song playing out...cant you just enjoy the music instead of pulling a face...!
  • Joseph 13 August 2012 08:58 30 18
can the RTA also slap fines on people with bad odor?
  • Mario Dimaano 13 August 2012 07:14 26 6
They should also fine those using headphones but singing out loud. It's more annoying.
