Dh755m water, electricity projects for UAQ approved

The committee tasked with implementing directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has approved two projects for developing the water and electricity infrastructure in Umm al-Qaiwain at a cost of Dh755 million.

These projects are in implementation of the directives of the president and follow-up of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Ahmed Juma Al Za'abi, Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Committee said that the projects come within the Committee's plan to implement the third phase of the initiatives of His Highness the Head of State.

The projects adopted by the Committee at its meeting yesterday under the chairmanship of Al Za'abi are the development of the water network in the east coast and water transfer project to the Emirate of Umm al-Qaiwain .

The first project aims to develop the water network in the east coast with a total implementation cost of Dh591 million.

Meanwhile, the second project of transferring water to Umm al-Qaiwain aims to lay a 61 km long water pipeline of 800 mm diameter with a capacity to carry 20 million gallons per day from the main network of the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority. This project aims at ending the long suffering of Umm al-Qaiwain residents and the surrounding areas regarding the availability of water.

The cost of the project is Dh164 million and is expected to be completed in one and a half year.
